My NY based colleague Mark spotted this one…
It is the N Building in Tokyo, which is covered with QR data so that store info can be captured from street level via a passerby’s phone. The supporting iPhone app collects real time info from inside the building, and so:
“By reading the QR Code with your mobile device you will be taken to a site which includes up to date shop information…our goal is to provide an incentive to visit the space and a virtual connection to the space without necessarily being present.” (Qosmo Inc. CEO Nao Tokui) .
The app allows users to access store info, make reservations. and view GPS-enabled Twitter feeds from workers inside.
Looks like augmented reality is finally coming of age as an engaging advertising tool, time to tear down the ugly signs normally plastered across shop windows, it’s all about pretty QR patterns.
